The Old Clans have never been very stable. With constant bickering and Clan dividedness, it was only a matter of time before things collapsed into chaos. They all had their own problems; ThunderClan cats were too snooty for their own good, WindClan cats lost more than half of their Clan after a deadly disease, RiverClan cats had multiple leadership overthrows, and ShadowClan cats took advantage of everyone else’s struggles.
It was the beginning of the end. ShadowClan took over WindClan, and ThunderClan intervened just like they always did. But before anyone could do anything, the ShadowClan leader produced a black stone that he claimed could strip away a leader’s nine lives. Unbelieving and cocky, the ThunderClan leader touched the stone in defiance.
Light flashed, and all of a sudden, the ThunderClan leader was dead. His body shriveled up into ash before anyone could react. The ShadowClan leader had killed him. Without their leader, the ThunderClan cats were easily defeated by ShadowClan. After the battle, ShadowClan returned to the ThunderClan camp and killed their queens and kits. They didn’t want anyone to stand in their way of domination.
At this point, lots of ShadowClan cats were unhappy with the direction their Clan was headed. They left with a few surviving ThunderClan cats and formed the Resistance with RiverClan. The newly formed group, led by the RiverClan leader, attempted to defeat ShadowClan under the cover of darkness. They lost, and the RiverClan leader was captured for execution. The ShadowClan leader forced him to touch the black rock, now called the Deathstone, and then killed him in front of his warriors. The rest of the Resistance was then slaughtered.
The corrupted ShadowClan leader was driven mad with his lust for blood and power. His remaining warriors were so caught up in his vision for future that they didn’t care about what they were doing. StarClan saw what was going on, and they knew they had to end it. That night, a star fell from the sky. The burning rock struck the ground, sending fire and debris in every direction. The ShadowClan leader was impaled by a slab of stone, and the rest of his warriors burned or suffocated to death. The Clans were no more, and the Deathstone was burried under dirt and rock.
It was an old she-cat that saved the legacy of the Clans. Dovestroke, an elderly RiverClan she-cat, had survived by hiding out in the RiverClan camp. When the meteor struck, she hobbled away from the Clan territories and managed to make it past RiverClan territory before she collapsed.
A wandering group of rogues found her that evening. Dovestroke stayed in their home until she had regained her strength. Just as she was prepared to leave, StarClan spoke to her in a vision. They told her that four rogues: Branch, Scorch, Meadow, and Light, were destined to form the Clans again. Their mission was to create a land of peace and prosperity, and not make the same mistakes that the previous Clans made.
Dovestroke stayed alive long enough to train the four young cats. She sent them to the StarClan-inhabited Moonpond, where they would recieve their nine lives. And then she died peacefully, knowing that she had preserved the Clans’ legacy.
Branchstar, Scorchstar, Meadowstar, and Lightstar were the start of it all. Now the Warrior Story continues on our site!
